1. Introduction to Applications
With Applications, you are able to build the exact tool you need, right inside Businessmap, instead of managing your work with a rigid, one-size-fits-all setup. This gives your organization the freedom to shape Businessmap around your own processes, rather than adjusting your processes to fit the software. The result is less time spent on workarounds, fewer extra tools to pay for and maintain, and a single place where your team already works, now able to support even more of what your business needs.
In short, Applications mark a shift from Businessmap being just a robust software platform to becoming a robust solutions platform - one where work is managed exactly the way you need it.
An Application is a self-contained space inside your Businessmap account, built for a specific purpose. Once it's created, you can configure it, share it with the right people, and start using it right away.
2. Permissions
Account Owners can create new Applications - this permission cannot be revoked.
Additionally, Account Owners can grant additional users or teams permissions to create new apps. This can be done from the "Allow users to create Apps" setting in Account administration -> Security and Audit:
Once an Application exists, Account Owners or anyone with the correct permissions can share it with other users or teams, so the people who need it can start working in it too - see point 4.
3. How to Create a New Application
Step 1: Look for the "New application" option and click it:
Step 2: A window will open showing you all the available Application types. Browse through them and select the type of Application you want to create.
Step 3: Fill out the details for your new Application:
Application name (mandatory) — give your Application a clear, recognizable name.
Description (optional) — add a short explanation of what the Application is for, so your team knows what it's used for at a glance.
Additional configuration — depending on the Application type you picked, you may see a few extra settings specific to that type. Fill these out as needed.
Once you're happy with the details, confirm and your new Application will be created.
That's it! Your new Application will now appear in your list of Applications, ready to be set up further or used right away:
4. Managing Your Application
Once your Application is created, you can go back and adjust it at any time from the "Settings" option:
Inside Settings, you'll find three main categories: General, User access, and Team access:
4.1 General
Here, you can:
Update the name, description, or any additional configuration you set up when creating the Application.
Delete the Application using the "Delete application" option.
Important: Deleting an Application is permanent. This will remove the Application and all the data inside it, and this action cannot be undone. Make sure you really want to delete it before confirming.
4.2 User Access
This is where you decide which people can see and work in your Application.
To give someone access, use the "Add member" option. Every person you add is assigned a role, which determines what they're allowed to do inside the Application.
The available roles may vary slightly depending on the Application type, but the most common ones are:
Admin: Full access. Can manage members and teams, and rename or delete the Application.
Member: Can view and contribute to the Application.
Viewer: Read-only access. Can see the Application but not make changes.
4.3 Team Access
This works just like User access, but for entire teams instead of individual people.
To give a team access, use the "Add team" option and choose a role for that team. The same roles apply here as well:
Admin: Full access. Can manage members and teams, and rename or delete the Application.
Member: Can view and contribute to the Application.
Viewer: Read-only access. Can see the Application but not make changes.
5. How to Open an Application
Once your Application is set up the way you like, simply click on it from your Applications list, and it will load, ready for you to start working in it:
