Welcome to Businessmap 10.14! We’re excited to share what’s coming to the product his month:
1. Dropdown Custom Fields Now Available in Calculated Custom Field Formulas
Building on our calculated custom field feature, we’re adding dropdowns as a possible selection when building a formula. Dropdown fields will be available under the standard formulas and you can choose how to extract data from them.
For example, let’s say you want to calculate the material costs for a product. You need to sum the cost of materials and delivery expenses. You use a standard number field for material expenses and a dropdown for delivery costs since they have standardized rates. The formula configuration for your calculated number field might look like this:
Note: To search for numbers within a dropdown field from right to left, checkmark the setting in the configuration window.
Learn more in our calculated custom fields guide.
2. More Flexible Scheduling in Recurring Business Rules
You can now build custom cron expressions when scheduling recurring business rules. This significant improvement lets you customize when rules are executed. When scheduling a recurring create/update/archive business rule, you’ll see a custom cron expression menu in addition to our standard cron generator.
For example, if you want to trigger a recurring rule on the last Friday at the end of each quarter, your expression can look like this:

3. New Permission in Board Roles
To help you manage which users can manually change the actual start and end dates of initiatives, we've added a new permission in board roles. This permission will be enabled by default to preserve the current system behavior.
Note: If disabled, users won't be able to move timeline initiatives to the past on the timeline tracks. Learn more in our board roles guide.
4. Updates in Security Controls
4.1. Users with Specific Roles Can Receive Board Access Requests
Last month, we introduced a new security control that allows users to request access to boards. Now, we’re adding another option for who in the account can receive and manage access requests — users with specific roles. If you select this configuration, only users with the specified role who are assigned to the respective board will receive access requests.
Important: Workspace Managers and Account Owners won't receive access requests with this configuration unless they are part of a team assigned to the respective board with the specified role.
4.2. Size Limits for Card Attachments and Inline Images
To ensure greater security and flexibility in using the product, we’ve also introduced a size limit configuration in the “Card attachments” and “Allow inline images” security controls. You can now set a maximum size limit for attachments (between 1 and 30 MB) and inline images (between 1 and 7 MB).
5. Select Custom Positions for New Cards from the Board Sidebar
Moving on, we’ve improved the process of creating cards from the board sidebar. Now, when you click the plus button in the sidebar, you can select the exact location for the new item. That way, if there's a default template for the selected location, it will be automatically applied to the new card.
Note: If you have configured a default location for new cards from your Personal board settings, the card will be created in the pre-set location without displaying the board minimap.
6. Other Improvements
6.1. Priority Table Column in Planning View
You can now visualize the priority of initiatives as a separate table column in the planning view. The option is available in the planning view settings.
6.2. Filter by Custom Fields in the Throughput Report & Widget
To allow greater flexibility, in 10.14, you can further filter your cards by custom fields in the Throughput report and widget.
6.3. New Option in Worklog Reports
We’ve added a new option in the Worklog reports that lets you include card data from archived boards in your results. You will find it in the Options menu.
6.4. Workflows in Path Visualizations
For better transparency and usability, workflows will now be visible in all location paths alongside workspaces, boards, lanes, and columns (e.g. in business rule configurations).
6.5. Better Title Visualization in Cards and Initiatives
Last but not least, we’ve improved the title visualization of cards and initiatives in the open view. We’re introducing sticky titles, which means the titles will stay fixed at the top of the page regardless of how much you scroll down.
That way, you can always see the title of the card or initiative you’re working on, ensuring better visibility and a more consistent user experience.
7. Updates from Our SA (Solutions Architecture) Team
Since our customer requirements continue to grow alongside our software, from now on, we will be sharing important updates from our Solutions Architecture team with each product release. The SA team develops standalone migration and integration tools to solve complex customer cases and is the central point of contact for any integration-related topics.
In 10.14, we’re happy to share that:
- We have a new Slack App version that allows you to create bi-directional integrations between Businessmap and Slack. You can also create comments in Businessmap cards directly from Slack with a command. Learn more in our Slack integration guide.
- We released a new version of our Businessmap Power Automate connector. It utilizes API v2 and features many new functionalities. Learn more in our Power Automate guide.
