Value Stream Manager Application
With Businessmap Version 13.0, we're introducing a bold new concept: applications inside Businessmap. This marks a shift from a robust software platform to a robust solutions platform — where work is managed exactly the way you need it. And the first of these applications is the Value Stream Manager, a strategic powerhouse for organizations seeking end-to-end clarity and optimization across their processes. This feature enables you to visualize, analyze, and manage your value streams in one centralized place, ensuring you capture every improvement opportunity and drive continuous delivery excellence.
Inside the Value Stream Manager, you can start from a template for your value stream, import an existing process directly from the boards in your account, or simply describe what you need and let AI build it for you — whether it's a new product launch, a complex engineering project, or anything in between. Once your value stream is created, you can rearrange steps on your map, refine the structure with AI, and map each step directly to your existing boards where your teams continue doing what they've always done — but now with unmatched visibility across the entire value stream. The Value Stream Manager integrates seamlessly into your workflow and provides actionable insights that help you make data-driven decisions aligned perfectly with your strategic goals.
Workflow steps on the AI Canvas
One of the most exciting capabilities in Version 13.0 is the ability to build and manage workflows directly on the AI-powered canvas boards. You can now add workflow steps — like Planned, In Progress, Done — right onto the canvas, choosing between activity or queue step types, just as you would on a standard workflow board, but without being restricted by a fixed structure. You can even set rules for how work enters and leaves each step, meaning you're not just visualizing your workflow — you're actually managing and governing it directly on the canvas. This is flexibility at its finest, giving your team the freedom to model processes the way they truly work.
Improve Cards MCP
The card management and creation process (MCP) is now even more powerful. You can mark exit criteria, easily add links to existing cards, and utilize all link types at creation. The batch tool supports linking via card ID and link type, giving you ultimate flexibility and control when managing large projects or intercottnnected tasks.
Outcomes Improvements
See Detailed History for Individual Outcomes
You can now examine the full evolution of any Outcome in Whiteboards by accessing historical records through the context menu. Simply click "History" on any Outcome to explore its previous states, retrace changes, and understand trends — ensuring full transparency and accountability as your teams track how objectives progress over time.
Add, View, and Edit Values for Individual Outcomes
Tracking progress is vital, and the new "Values" option in the Outcome context menu lets you open a modal to see, add, and edit historical values for individual Outcomes within Whiteboards. This enhancement makes it simple to monitor checkpoints and review detailed progress over time, so every metric is always at your fingertips.
See Forecast for Individual Outcomes
Gain the power to anticipate results by selecting "Forecast" from any Outcome's context menu. You can view and manage forecasts, add checkpoints, and even click directly on an Outcome's progress bar to open the forecast modal. This visual and interactive experience ensures you stay ahead of the curve and proactively address any concerns in your roadmap.
Card Outcome Permissions
You now have granular control over who can add, edit, and remove Outcomes on cards. Four new permissions — Add Outcomes, Edit Outcomes, Remove Outcomes, and Edit Custom Fields — let administrators fine-tune access at the board level. These permissions are automatically granted to all roles that already have the card edit details permission, so your existing workflows continue smoothly while giving you the flexibility to tighten governance where it matters.
Generate Outcomes with AI (in Card Details)
Let AI accelerate your outcome creation! When defining outcomes in a card, clicking "Define desired measurable outcomes" opens a familiar pop-up that empowers you to generate outcomes using AI. Describe your desired result, hit "Generate," and a fully filled-out modal appears ready for your review. Prefer manual entry? That option is always available — giving you flexibility, intelligence, and speed all in one place.
Docs Improvements
Docs Export as PDF
Your documentation is valuable, and now you can export any document directly as a PDF via the CKEditor or through public docs. Whether you need to share with clients, archive important records, or prepare a polished presentation, creating a professional PDF is now just a click away — streamlining your workflow and enabling seamless communication.
Docs Public Share via Link
Open up your documents to a wider audience! In the Share section, you can now generate a secure public link for any document, allowing anyone to read it — even without logging into Businessmap. For added security, you can protect access with a password that adheres to your company's Password Policy. Administrators control who can create or revoke public links, so you always stay in charge of your content.
Add Plan Start and End Dates in Templates
Planning templates just got more flexible. You can now specify planned start and end dates directly within templates, with options identical to those in initiative dropdowns. For even more control, enter dates manually — exactly as you would with deadlines. This enhancement ensures your team's planning is precise, consistent, and adaptable from the very start.
Advanced Search — Find Multiple Items by List
You can now paste multiple values (each value should be on a new row/line) into the string fields, and Businessmap will automatically populate the values for you. This saves many clicks setting up the search configuration, when you need to search by multiple values.
Almost Unlimited Icons for Customized Views
Personalize your types, tokens, etc. with even more flair! The enhanced Icon Picker now includes all prior icons plus a whole new universe of icons, giving you complete freedom to select and apply visual markers wherever you need them.
Other Updates
Add Direct URLs for Comments and Subtasks
For even more efficient work, every comment and subtask now includes an icon for copying a direct link. Opening the link launches the corresponding card and scrolls right to the specific comment or subtask, streamlining communication and navigation. For subtasks, you'll find the option in the menu alongside "convert," "copy id," and "copy content" — just select "Copy Link." For comments, hover over the item to reveal the link icon. Sharing and referencing important details has never been faster!
Grid Control for Whiteboards
Visual clarity matters when you're collaborating on Whiteboards, and now you have full control over grid visibility directly from the canvas context menu. With a simple toggle, you can enable or disable grids to align and organize your content with precision — making brainstorming and planning sessions more structured and efficient. Grids are turned off by default, so your canvas stays clean until you need that extra layer of alignment.
Back to Content (AI Canvas & Whiteboards)
Navigation in Canvas and Whiteboards just got smarter! With the "Back to Content" option — located right next to the history and zoom controls — you can instantly jump to the nearest visible object on your canvas. If no objects are in view but content exists elsewhere, a single click brings you right back. You can also use the handy shortcut Alt + 3, keeping you oriented and productive even during the most expansive collaborative sessions.
Hide Progress Percentage Icon
Fine-tune the information displayed on your initiatives with the new setting in the Initiative View section that lets you toggle the visibility of progress percentage. This applies to both standard and planning views, giving you the ability to present exactly the right level of detail to your team and stakeholders.
Show Milestones on the Planning View
Visualize project milestones directly on initiative tracks! Once you enable the "Show milestones on tracks" option in the Settings panel, milestones appear right where they matter most. They stack visually for easy recognition, helping you focus on key dates and reach important goals with greater clarity.
API — Return Created At for Subtasks
The API endpoints for subtasks now include the "created_at" property, enabling you to build deeper and smarter integrations. This enhancement works across GET /cards, GET /cards/ID, GET /cards/ID/subtasks, and GET /cards/ID/subtasks/ID — ensuring you always have the data you need for automation and insights.
UX Improvements for Custom Field Configurations
A new "Sort allowed values" button lets you reorder chips quickly — choose from alphabetical (A–Z / Z–A), newest to oldest, or oldest to newest. Preview and adjust as needed, then save to apply your changes. This time-saving enhancement makes configuring custom fields a breeze.
Filter Reports and Metrics Widgets by Parent Cards
Get ultimate granularity in your throughput reporting, most analytics widgets and all reports. You can now filter by parent card ID, making it easier to analyze performance of individual initiatives.
Improve Business Rule Permissions
You can now assign "viewer" or "editor" permissions when sharing business rules. Existing users retain their editor rights, while viewers can be granted read-only access. This enhancement ensures collaborative control while maintaining proper governance.
