Welcome to Businessmap V13.06! This release is all about making your Whiteboards and Canvas clearer, richer and more expressive. Businessmap cards on the canvas have been redesigned from the ground up: you decide exactly which details they show, you can color their entire surface, and they stay readable even when you zoom far out to see the big picture. Add ready-made matrix templates, AI-generated tables, labeled arrows, rotation, nested frames and a laser pointer, and your whiteboard becomes the place where workshops, plans and presentations actually happen.
And of course, that is not everything — you can use the API with OAuth, declutter card details with field visibility rules, see who else is working in a document, audit every change to your business rules, and enjoy a long list of improvements to search, filtering, sorting and reporting. Here is everything that is new.
What's in this release:
- Whiteboards and Canvas: redesigned cards and a richer toolkit
- OAuth in Businessmap API
- Field visibility rules
- Better collaboration in Documents
- Business rules: change history and inline images
- Faster work on boards: sorting, filtering and search
- Planning, reporting and everyday improvements
Whiteboards and Canvas: redesigned cards and a richer toolkit
This is one of the biggest Whiteboards and Canvas updates so far. Businessmap cards on the canvas get a brand-new, configurable look, they can be colored across their whole surface, and they stay readable at smaller zoom levels. Around them you get a whole new toolkit: matrix templates, tables generated by AI, labeled and precisely attached arrows, rotation, nested frames, a laser pointer and more. Here is what you are able to do with the new release.
Redesigned Businessmap cards: card view, full-surface color and readability
Configure card view. The look of Businessmap cards in Whiteboards has been completely redesigned into a compact, information-rich layout — and you are in full control of it.
Color the full card surface. Color is one of the fastest ways to read a board, and now it works just as hard on your canvas. Until now, the color of a Businessmap card was visible only as a thin border. Switch on "Color the entire card" — the checkbox at the bottom of Preferences → Card view — and the whole surface of every Businessmap card is tinted in a light shade of its color, while the border keeps the full color.
Improved readability when zooming out. Zooming out to see the whole picture should not turn your cards into unreadable specks. As soon as the text of a card would become too small to read (below roughly 75% zoom for a card created at 100%), the card switches to a clean, title-only view:
Matrix templates and AI-generated tables
Matrices. Stop drawing the same quadrants over and over again. With the new release you are able to drop a ready-made analysis or prioritization matrix onto your whiteboard with a single click. The templates live in the new Toolbox — the toolbar button that replaces "More tools" — which is organized in four tabs (All, Templates, Symbols and More) and comes with a search and a live preview of every template.
Eight templates are available from day one: SWOT Analysis, Impact-Effort Matrix, Eisenhower Matrix, a 5x5 Risk Matrix, Power-Interest Grid, Ansoff Matrix, BCG Matrix and Value-Complexity Matrix. Each one arrives inside its own Frame with colored quadrants, titles, short explanations, labeled axes and empty notes ready to be filled in. Everything is made of regular whiteboard objects, so you can edit, recolor or delete any part, move the whole template as one piece, and undo the insertion in a single step.
Generate table with AI. Tables arrived in the previous release — now AI builds them for you. Open "Create with AI" in the toolbar and choose "Generate table", or right-click a selection and pick Ask AI → Generate → Generate table. Notes and text objects, Businessmap cards, documents and outcomes all serve as context, and the result is a regular, fully editable table placed in the center of your view: a bold header row, one row per item, option, step or period, and short, scannable cells.
A prompt history keeps your previous instructions one click away, and while the AI prefers compact tables of 2 to 6 columns and up to 20 rows, you can ask for a specific size in your instructions.
Smarter arrows and rotating objects
Add text to arrows. A connection often needs a name — a decision, a condition, a type of dependency. With the new release you are able to put text directly on an arrow: double-click it, select it and press Enter, or right-click and choose "Add text".
Attach arrows to any point on an object outline. Arrows used to connect only to the four standard points of an object or to the object as a whole. Now you are able to attach the start or the end of an arrow to any point along the outline, so it can point at exactly the part you mean — for example a specific row or column of a table.Move close to the outline and a highlighted dot shows you where the arrow will land. The point follows the real shape of the object, it snaps to corners, to the middle of a side and to the middle of table rows and columns, and it keeps its relative position when you move or resize the object.
Rotate objects. Your canvas is no longer limited to the horizontal. You can now rotate text, notes, symbols and all shapes to any angle — simply drag from just outside one of the corners of the selection, and hold Shift to snap in steps of 15°.
Nested Frames, Laser pointer and usable locked widgets
Nested Frames and connections to / from a Frame. Frames just became a real structuring tool. With the new release you are able to place a Frame inside another Frame — with unlimited levels of nesting — and when you move the outer Frame, everything inside it moves along as one piece.
"Resize to fit" wraps a Frame around all of its content. Frames also have a fresh look, with rounded corners and the title shown in a colored label above the Frame.
Laser pointer. Presenting on a whiteboard just got a lot more natural. The new Laser pointer tool — in the Freehand tools group next to Marker, Highlighter and Eraser, or simply press P — lets you point at things with a trail that fades away after about two seconds. Everyone who is on the same whiteboard sees your trail live, in exactly the same place on the content and in the color of your cursor. Nothing is saved to the whiteboard and nothing ends up in the Undo history, so you can point freely during a workshop or a review without leaving a mark.
Locked widgets and embeds stay usable. Locking an Embed or a Widget used to freeze it completely. Now locking protects only the position and the size of the object, while the content stays fully interactive. A single click on a locked Embed or Widget activates it right away, so you can play a video, scroll or click inside it, without any risk of accidentally moving, resizing or deleting it.
A locked Widget can be viewed, refreshed and opened in a new tab, while renaming and settings stay hidden. Whenever you need to rearrange it again, right-click the object and choose "Unlock".
Edit workflows and Analytics on AI Canvas
AI Canvas boards are now first-class boards. You are able to open "Edit workflows" and the Analytics for an AI Canvas exactly as you do for a regular board — from the buttons in the top bar of the AI Canvas or from the board's menu on the Dashboard — and both respect your existing board permissions.
OAuth in Businessmap API
You can now connect scripts, integrations and apps to Businessmap with OAuth instead of a single permanent API key. Create a separate set of credentials for each integration in My Account → API → OAuth credentials, give it a name such as "CI pipeline" or "Reporting script", and exchange it for a short-lived access token that expires after one hour. Removing a credential stops that one integration immediately while everything else keeps working.
Note: Your API limits stay exactly as they are today. The limit is shared between your API key and your OAuth tokens, so requests made with either method count toward the same allowance. Moving an integration from an API key to OAuth, or using both side by side, neither reduces nor increases how much you are able to use the API.
Field visibility rules
Not every field matters for every card. With the new field visibility rules you are able to hide the fields that are not relevant in the card details — both custom fields and standard fields such as Owner, Co-owners, Deadline, Size, Tags, Custom ID, Milestones, Watchers, Reporter and the timeline dates — so people only see what matters for the card in front of them. Rules are created from the board sidebar, right where your arrival and departure rules live, and can be attached to the whole board, a workflow, a column, a lane or a single cell. Conditions are optional and are built with the editor you already know; there is even a new "current viewer" condition, so different people can see a different set of fields without separate boards.
Hidden fields are never lost. When a card has hidden fields, an eye button in the Card fields header reveals them in their usual place, they stay fully editable, and a required field that is still empty is shown automatically when you save the card. This is decluttering, not access control — and it makes long cards dramatically easier to work with.
Important note: The fields are hidden only in the card details. How cards look on the board is a personal setting of each user and is not affected by this rule.
Better collaboration in Documents
See who is in the document with you. Working on a document together is now much safer and more transparent. Stacked avatars in the document header show you who else currently has the document open, and a green ring marks a colleague with unsaved changes.
When another person saves the document you are viewing, it refreshes quietly and a discreet message tells you who updated it. And if you have unsaved changes of your own, your content is never reloaded — instead you get a persistent banner with a "View changes" option, so your work is never overwritten by surprise.
Reorder child documents on a board. With the new release you are able to drag child documents into the order you want inside a board's Documents panel — not just the top-level ones. The order you set is specific to that board: it does not change the main documents list and it does not affect how the same documents appear on any other board, so every team can arrange shared documentation in the way that suits its workflow. Reordering requires the Manage Documents board permission.
Business rules: change history and inline images
Change history in Audit Logs. Who changed that rule — and who deleted it? Now you have the answer. A new "Business rule history" tab in Audit Logs lists every change made to any business rule in your account: who created, renamed, enabled or disabled it, changed its owner, description or definition, shared or tagged it, and when.
Inline images in the "Send Notification" action. Your custom email notifications can finally be as visual as your cards. The editor of the "Send Notification" action now supports inline images: upload, drag and drop or paste a picture into the body of the message, exactly as you do in a card description. The image arrives embedded in the email itself, so recipients see it immediately — no broken tags and no links that require signing in to Businessmap.
Faster work on boards: sorting, filtering and search
Sorting cards by tag. Tags are one of the most popular ways to categorize work, and now you are able to use them in the card ordering rules of your board cells, right next to priority, deadline, stickers and the other criteria. Choose Tags, pick A to Z or Z to A, and cards are ordered by their tags alphabetically, with cards that have no tags always placed at the end.
Expand and collapse columns and swimlanes. Boards with many lanes are now much quicker to tidy up. The context menu of every column and swimlane offers two new options: expand or collapse the lane or column you clicked on, and expand or collapse all lanes or all columns of the current workflow at once — so you can fold away every swimlane without touching the columns, and without collapsing them one by one.
Combine the links hierarchy filter with the board filter. After you show the links hierarchy of a card — for example all children of an initiative — you are able to apply the regular board filter on top of it, and it narrows down only the cards that are still visible. It is the fastest way to answer questions such as "which children of this initiative belong to my team?".
Hotkey for card search and refresh of search results. Finding a card is now one keystroke away. Press the "/" key anywhere in Businessmap and the search opens instantly, ready for you to type. We have also added a refresh option to the search, so you can get up-to-date results without closing it and typing the same text again.
Planning, reporting and everyday improvements
Milestones configuration in Planning view. In addition to "Show milestones on tracks", a new configuration option lets you decide whether milestones are displayed in the top section of the Planning view.
Two-week interval for the Throughput widget. If your team works in two-week sprints, your throughput chart can now speak the same language. The Throughput widget offer a new "Two weeks" period, so you are able to group delivered work by sprint-sized intervals and compare one iteration with the next at a glance.
Improved time tracking workflow. Logging several time entries in a row is now effortless. After you press "Register time", the Date, Category, and "Capture parent card" selections stay exactly as you set them — only the time and the comment are cleared — and the cursor jumps straight back to the Time field.
Custom cover image in Announcements. When you choose a cover image for an announcement, you are able to either pick a photo from the Unsplash gallery, as before, or upload your own file — a product screenshot, a brand visual or a picture of the very feature you are announcing. The upload option is available when inline images are enabled for your account.
Public filters return more of the card description. Public filters now return much more of each card's description. The returned number of characters vary in order to prevent the generation of payloads too large — up to 500,000 characters per card when the filter returns up to 10 cards, down to 1,000 characters for results above 1,000 cards. In the interface, descriptions longer than 50 characters can be opened in a dedicated window, so you are able to read the whole text without leaving the filter.
