Note about the release schedule of versions 7.5, 7.6 and the upcoming 8.0
Dear Kanbanizers, we’ve been working extremely hard to make versions 7.5 and 7.6 happen. We’ve also made huge progress on the upcoming 8.0, which is about to bring Kanbanize to a whole new level. The resulting change set is one of the biggest in our history (tens of thousands of code commits in several thousand modules).
The challenge of having so many changes is that they affect the database layer, which slows down the rollout process. With our biggest accounts, we need to resolve data conflicts virtually case per case, and that takes time.
You will all get the changes by the end of the year but please note that we are not going to follow our regular monthly cycle. You may see the changes come up tomorrow, or at the end of December, depending on how complex your account migration is going to be. Thank you for your patience, we believe it will be worth the wait!

New Action in Business Rules: Link Card
Linking cards has always been a core feature in Kanbanize. With this new option, we allow you to link cards automatically upon certain events.
All link types are supported and the action is available in the following business rules:
- Card is Created
- Recurring Create Cards
- Card is Updated
- Recurring Update Cards
- Card Updated by email
- Card is Moved
- Time - based rule
Custom Field Type: Card Picker
With the "Card picker" field, you can easily create one direction references between the current card and other cards. It is like a shortcut from one card to another.
Think of this field as a dropdown field where the values are other cards. However, instead of having to manually populate the possible values for the field, they are dynamically populated from a predefined search query.
Typical scenarios would be:
- Referring a card that represents a specialized entity (Project / Epic / Theme / Bet / Topic / Investment Area / etc.). This will provide quick access to the entity at all times.
- Using the new business rules action (Link to), link the current card to a specialized entity Project / Epic / Theme / Bet / Topic / Investment Area / etc.
Custom Field Type: Vote
It is now easy to create a binary poll in Kanbanize using the "Vote" custom field.
Add a topic to vote on in the respective card and notify the users whose votes you expect to collect. Users vote directly in the card by clicking "thumb up" or "thumb down". Every user who votes can add a comment with some details.
The dedicated "Voting" panel displays the number of users who voted along with their avatar and comments. It also shows the distribution of votes in percentage (%).
Custom Field Type: File
With this type of custom field, you can attach documents, images and any other types of files to the cards. What makes this field different from the default "attachments" card property is the various custom field settings that allow you to define different behavior. For example, you can make the field required, which would enforce the users to populate it before saving a card. Once the custom field is added to the card, you can upload/drag single or multiple attachments from:
- Your computer
- Dropbox
- Box
- Google Drive
- OneDrive
New "Change Parent" option to quickly move cards between Initiatives
With the new functionality you can quickly change the parent of a card. Go to the original parent Initiative and right click the rectangle that represents the child card you want to transfer.
Select "Change Parent" and start typing the Title or ID of the Initiative you want to move the card to. The child card will shift over to its new parent and the change will become visible instantly.
Create Timeline Initiatives using "Kanbanize for sheets" add-on
Once you enter your Kanbanize credentials (URL; Api key; Board ID), select which card properties you want to export. There is a checkbox for every property including Timeline Initiatives.

Please note the following:
- To create a Timeline initiative in "Requested", you need to specify the Planned start and Planned End dates.
- To create a Timeline initiative " In progress", you need to specify the Start date and Planned end date.
- To create a Timeline initiative in " Done", you need to specify the Start date and End date.
* The allowed date formats are as follows: MM/DD/YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD
Redesigned Administration menu
With Product Update 7.6, we overhauled the Administration menu, which is the main point of access to User Management, Business Rules, Integrations, Card Management, Security & Audit.
We made that change to create better visibility and structure of the components contained within it.
Predecessor and Successor in Business Rules
You can use this action with any of the following rules:
- Card is Created
- Card is Updated
- Card Updated by e-mail
- Card is Moved
- WIP Limit is reached
- WIP limit is exceeded
- Card Count

Mobile Improvements
"Better Widgets" is the theme of the updates in our mobile apps this product update.
Android got refreshed cards of the home screen widget. The initiatives now have a proper view with a summary of all the child cards in each section plus an indicator of how many of them are blocked.
On the iOS front we got a brand new widget concept. We updated the outlook of the widgets and we introduced separate views for cards / initiatives. Now you can add as many widgets as you need and select a different search filter (from the built-in ones plus those you have saved from the web app).
