The goal of the text editor is to help you format the description, comments, and subtasks of your cards and initiatives. In this article, we will cover each element of the editor and how to use it.
Text Editor Elements
The text editor provides a wide range of editing and formatting features to customize your card description, comments, and subtasks. You can add images, tables, lists, annotations, special symbols, and even emojis.
The card description has two modes — View and Edit Mode.
When you initially open a card, it is in View Mode, and the text editor toolbar is hidden. To edit the description, click anywhere on the card description, and the toolbar will appear, indicating you can now edit the text.

The top bar consists of the following icons that allow you to format your card description:
(1) Text Formatting
- Bold — Use the bold toolbar button or type **text** or __text__
- Italic — Use the italic toolbar button or type *text* or _text_
- Underline — Use the underline toolbar button or type to underline text.
- Strikethrough — Use the strikethrough toolbar button or type ~~text~~
Note: You can also create a code snippet by typing `text.`
(2) Font Settings
You will find these options:
- Font Size — set the size of the text.
- Font Family — set the font of the text.
- Font Color — set the font color of the text.
- Font Background Color — set the background color of the font of the text.
- Remove Format — return the text to its default formatting.
(3) Links
Add hyperlinks to the text. Select the text you would like to hyperlink and click on the link icon (or press Ctrl + K) to open a window and paste the link URL. Note that this is intended to be used for web URLs only.
(4) Text Alignment
Align text to the left, center, or right of the card description window. You can also use the justify option where a space is added between words so that both edges of each line are aligned with both margins.
(5) Types of Lists
- Bulleted List — To create a bullet list, start a line with * or - followed by a space, or use the toolbar button. You can select the bullet list style from the dropdown.
- Numbered List — To create a numbered list, start a line with 1. or 1) followed by a space, or use the toolbar button. You can select the numbered list style from the dropdown.
- To-do List — To create a to-do list, start a line with [ ] or [x] followed by a space, or use the toolbar button to insert an unchecked or checked list item, respectively.
(6) Tools
- Annotations — add comments and annotations to the text in the description. Select the text you want to comment on and click the speech bubble icon to open the annotation window. You can resolve, edit, or remove comments from the annotation window.
- Tables — insert a table in the card's description, comments, or subtasks.
- Insert Images — insert an image in the card description from your files.
- Insert Code Block — insert code block in the card description.
(7) Special Characters
Click on the icon to insert special characters into your text. By default, the system will display all special characters, but you can filter them by Emoji, Arrows, Currency, Mathematical, and Text symbols by clicking on the All dropdown.
You can also insert a special character by typing its shortcut. For example, if you want to insert the handshake emoji (🤝), you can either copy-paste its icon or type — (handshake).
