1. Arrival/Departure Rules & Card Ordering Are in Official Beta
In version 9.6, we’re releasing Beta versions of 2 major functionalities – Arrival & Departure Rules and Card Ordering. Don’t hesitate to test them and give us your feedback.
Now, let’s take a brief preview of both functionalities below.
1.1. Determine Arrival & Departure Rules for Your Process (Beta)
To enable you to predefine what criteria work should meet to enter or exit a given area inside your process, we’re releasing an early version of an “Arrival and Departure Rules” concept. As a result, you can further mature your flow management practices across the entire value stream by creating arrival/departure policies for upstream/downstream processes.
The rules are accessible inside the “Board Policies” feature from your board’s sidebar menu, and you can set them per:
- Board
- Workflow
- Column
- Lane
- Cell
As this functionality is in an official Beta, we’d love to hear your feedback! Feel free to test different scenarios and get back to us at support@businessmap.io.
1.2. Apply Permanent Card’s Order (Beta)
Furthermore, we’re releasing a Beta version of a “Card Ordering” functionality inside the software. Again, we encourage you to test different scenarios and send us your feedback at support@businessmap.io.
The “Card Ordering” allows you to set a permanent order of your work items based on various criteria, so you can have even more flexibility to structure your workflows as you see fit. You can start testing the feature from the workflow editor and set card orders per:
- Column
- Sub-column
- Cell
Note 1: Due to this functionality, we’ve revamped the previous “Card Sorting” in the software. From now on, when right-clicking on an empty area of a column, you can order cards “temporarily”, “for everyone” (which covers the old “Card Sorting” behavior), and “permanently” (which comes from the new “Card Ordering” functionality).
Note 2: When testing the functionality, keep in mind that there is a limit of 100 cards per column where a permanent order has been applied.
2. Workflow Performance Summary Widget Improvement
To enable more flexibility when working with the Workflow Performance Summary widget, we’re giving you an additional option. In the widget’s settings, you can:
- “Only include items completed within the selected period” – choosing it will restrict the widget to display data (accumulated within a selected period – ex., Last week) ONLY for completed cards. Therefore, the comparison will be with the completed card's data for the previous period (i.e., the week before last week).
-
- 1. As part of this configuration, we’re also adding a sub-option: “Calculate the total time for Lead Time, Cycle Time, Block Time and Flow efficiency, even if accumulated outside the selected period” - choosing it will display the FULL lifecycle flow data of cards that were completed in the selected period (ex. This month). Hence, the comparison will be with the FULL lifecycle flow data of cards that were done in the previous period (ex., Last month).
-
Note: the sub-option can only work in conjunction with the main setting. Learn more in our “Workflow Performance Summary” widget article.
3. Easily View Your Cell Policies
To enable better visualization of policies on a cell level, we’re adding a “Cell Policies” section inside the “Board Policies” feature.
As you filter a given workflow, in the “Cell Policies” field, you can also select a specific lane. Inside each column, you will be able to set the following cell policies:
- Service Level Expectations (not applicable to “Backlog”, “Done”, and “Ready to archive” columns)
- Card ordering
- Arrival Rules
- Departure Rules
4. New Limit & Format for Exporting Audit Logs
Moving forward, we’ve decided to increase the limit on exporting all audit logs. You can now export up to 10,000 lines. Furthermore, to better accommodate large datasets, we’re changing the export format to CSV.
5. Apply Notification Settings Across All Boards
To save you time, you can now save your notification settings for all boards where you are a member (instead of just the selected one). You can do this from a new “Save for All Boards” button inside “Notifications” in the My account panel.
6. Other Improvements
As usual, Businessmap 9.6 comes with a bunch of other improvements that enrich the capabilities of the system. Let’s go over them below.
- Copy Details When Cloning Cards
First of all, when cloning cards from the context menu, you will notice a new option that allows you to specify what details to copy from the original onto the cloned card. Selecting the option will open a window where you can choose among the available card fields. If a card has subtasks, you can select to copy only the unfinished ones to the new card.
- Cycle Time per Column Report – See Times in Column
To help you identify how many times work has moved through columns when analyzing data with the cycle time per column report, we’re giving you a new “Times in column” property. It’s particularly useful for the “Table view”, where you can analyze how many times a specific work item has been in a particular column.
- Include Discarded Cards in Worklog Reports
Furthermore, we’re making it possible for you to include discarded cards inside your worklog reports (Worklog entries and Worklog by item). You can do this once you choose the “Include discarded cards” setting from “Options” at the bottom left corner of a report.
- Synchronize “Co-Owners” Through Link is Updated Rules
To help you automatically synchronize co-owners between linked cards, we’re making the “Co-owners” property available in the copy action of all “Link is updated” type business rules.
- Restore Deleted Subtasks
Last but not least, from now on, once you’ve deleted a subtask, the option to restore it will be available in your “Card Revisions”.
Happy Kanbanizing with version 9.6!
