1. Introduction to the Exceeded SLE Scatter Plot
The Exceeded Service Level Expectations (SLEs) Scatter Plot is a representation of how often and by how much SLEs are exceeded in a given workflow. The chart visualizes the exceeded time of cards with SLEs within a selected time period.
- Across the "Y" axis is a representation of the SLE Exceeded Time. This can be adjusted using the Time Units controls.
- On the "X" axis is the SLE Exit Date of the card. This is the date on which a card has exited a particular SLE area on your board (column, lane, or cell). You can see the timeframe on the x-axis, and this timeframe can be adjusted using the Timeline Units controls.
Every time an SLE is exceeded, the system plots a dot with the Y value being the SLE exceeded time and the X value being the date when the card exited the column.
Note: If the card is still located in the position where the exceeded SLE is configured, it will not be drawn on the chart until it has left this position.
The dots themselves might have small numbers inside - this indicates a grouping of multiple work items having their SLEs exceeded with similar times. On hover, you can see the different SLEs that have been exceeded, as well as the work item IDs that exceeded those SLEs.
Important:
The Exceeded SLEs Scatter Plot is calculated according to an SLE's work days/hours configuration as opposed to a calendar day or week.
For example, let's say we have an SLE configured on the Requested column where cards should not spend more than 1 hour, and this SLE is applicable only for a working week of Monday to Friday with working hours between 9 am and 6 pm. If a card gets created at 6:30 pm on Friday, the SLE would not be exceeded until 10 am on Monday (if the card is still there), hence it would not be visualized on the chart as an item that exceeded this particular SLE.
Data Configuration
To filter your data, use the data configuration menu on the left side of your screen. You need to select at least one workflow and one of the following fields: Created at, Start Date, End Date. You can apply other optional filters as well.
In addition to that, you can enable two more options:
- Ignore the cycle time configuration for the selected workflow(s) — checkmark this if you want the system to disregard the cycle time settings for the selected workflow.
- Ignore the block time in the queue columns — checkmark this if you don't want the system to account for the time cards were blocked while they were in queue columns.
2. Controls for This Chart
You can use the controls to add some additional properties to the Exceeded SLE Scatter Plot as well as to apply additional filters.
- Dot colors - You may notice that some dots on the picture are a different color. You can use the dot colors in order to differentiate cards of different types. For example, coloring the dots of cards with High Priority red.
- Cursor - The cursor options, Date / Throughput and Exceeded Time / Percentile will give you extra information when hovering over the graph by drawing lines from the x- and y-axis.
- Percentiles - You can toggle between showing the 50, 70, 85, and 95 percentile of SLEs that have been exceeded. This way you can control the preciseness of the chart and exclude outliers.
- Exceeded Time Trend - enable/disable a trendline drawn from the dots on the chart.
- Timeline Units - this configuration is used to select a given time period (Calendar day, Week (Sun-Sat), Week(Mon-Sun), Month, Quarter, Year). This time period is the unit that you’d like to split the data by on the x-axis.
- Time Units - choose the time unit used on the y-axis - Minute, Hour, Work Day, and Week. The time units are calculated according to the SLEs' working hours and working days configuration.
- Layout - toggle the “Show Date Control” mini-graph which can be used to zoom in and slide through the chart, if you have too much data on it.
- Item Filter - filter work items based on a specific property (e.g. type, owner, etc).
- SLEs - choose which SLEs you want to focus on and display on the graph from the dropdown.
