Welcome to Businessmap 10.12! Here is what’s coming to the product this month:
1. Streamline Your OKR Tracking with Hierarchical Outcome Rules
We’re thrilled to introduce a new type of outcome rules to the product — hierarchical. These rules let you calculate an outcome inside a parent initiative based on the outcomes within its first-level child initiatives. This essentially helps to further automate the OKR tracking process.
So, how does it look like in action? Let’s look at a brief example:
Let's consider tracking global new subscriptions for a product. You can set up regular outcomes at the departmental level to monitor new subscriptions in different markets, and then use a hierarchical outcome rule in the parent initiative to automatically aggregate the data. This will ensure that any updates at the departmental level are seamlessly reflected in the global initiative.
Similarly, you can go a step down in the hierarchy, and set up a hierarchical outcome rule in your departmental initiatives that pull data from their child initiatives in the Teams workflow.
You can learn more about hierarchical outcome rules here.
2. Better Account Management with Additional User Properties
We’re releasing a new capability in the product to help you add more user properties. You will now see a new tab in the User Management Administration, called “User Attributes.” Think of these attributes as custom fields where you can input more information about your users, such as external ID, role, department, etc. You can create these attributes from the new tab and populate the values for each user either from SSO (when it is enabled) or from the Users table.
Important:
- Only Account Owners can create and edit user attributes.
- While your SSO is enabled and you have mapped these user attributes, Account Owners can’t edit them.
- Don’t store confidential information within user attributes because they'll be visible to all users across the application.
To map user attributes, use the dedicated section in the SSO configuration panel.
3. Our AI Assistant Is Now Available to All Accounts!
In Version 10.9, we released our Businessmap AI Assistant and made it available upon request. After improving it further, we’re thrilled to officially release it across all accounts! You will now find it in our Help Center (and My Account → Support). Just click the “Contact Support” button to start chatting. Of course, you can transfer your question directly to our support team at any point in the conversation.
Important: Accounts with Business/Enterprise Support Packages or 500+ users can continue to contact support from the default navigation. They can still access the assistant by clicking the respective link in the Contact Support form.
4. Try Our Experimental AI Product Assistant — the Businessmap AI Coach
As we continue to leverage the power of AI, we’re excited to introduce our very own AI product assistant. It’s still in the experimental phase and is only available upon request.
The goal of this new feature is to take our product analytics to the next level by analyzing your data on a workflow, column, lane, or card level, and offering real-time insights. To try our experimental AI coach, please contact our support team at support@businessmap.io.
5. Enhanced Security with 2 Additional Security Controls
To offer greater flexibility in configuring what information users can see in the account, we’re introducing two additional security controls.
5.1. Globally visible card fields
First, we're giving you the option to restrict the visibility of specific card fields to users who are not members of a particular board. This limitation applies to tooltips on cards linked to that board. When enabled, non-board members will be able to see the chosen card fields. The card fields you can select are:
- Owner
- Title
- Custom Card ID
- Type
Note: You should select at least one field if the setting is enabled (e.g. Owner).
This setting is enabled by default and all four card fields are globally visible.
5.2. Allow users to request access to boards
We’re introducing this security control to help streamline the process of requesting access to a board. If enabled, users will see all boards (and their respective IDs) in the account and can request access to them with a single button.
You also have the option to choose who in the account will receive the access requests:
- Workspace managers (of the board the user wants access to)
- Owners
- Specific users
To learn more details, check our security controls guide.
6. Additional Visualization Options in the Planning View
As part of our commitment to help you better plan and visualize your projects’ lifecycle, we’ve expanded the visualization options in our planning view. Now, alongside tracking actual progress, you can also visualize the deadlines for initiatives and other associated date fields.
Moreover, we’ve introduced a marker to display the original planned duration of an initiative before any auto scheduling adjustments. These new options are conveniently grouped under a single setting — “Show additional dates.”
For more details on how to use these new settings, please check our planning view guide.
7. Visualize Your Tableau and Looker Reports with 2 New Widgets
You can now visualize your Tableau and Looker reports in Businessmap thanks to the two new widgets we’re introducing to the product. This comes as an extension to the existing integrations where you can embed reports in Tableau and Looker from Businessmap. Now, you can embed reports from Tableau and Google’s Looker Studio directly into your Businessmap dashboards. All you need is the embed links from Tableau/Looker to set up your widget.
For a step-by-step setup, click here for Tableau and here for Looker.
8. Other Improvements
8.1. New Default Board Sender Setting
To further streamline our email integration feature, we’ve added the capability to set a default email sender for the board, both on a global and personal level:
- Workspace Managers can set a global default sender for the board. Just click the “@” icon in the “From” dropdown when sending an email from a card in that board to set it up.
- In addition to that, every user can set their own default sender for the board from the “Personal Board Settings” panel (formerly “Board Settings”).
Important: If a user has set a default email sender, it will override the default email address set by the Workspace Manager for that specific user.
8.2. Planned Start/End Dates in Business Rules (of type ‘Updated’)
We've introduced the “Planned Start” and “Planned End” date fields as selectable options within the WHEN configuration of Business Rules of type ‘updated.’ Consequently, if the rule is set to “Any change,” updating the planned start or end dates will now trigger the rule.
This applies to the following business rules:
- Card is updated
- Child card is updated
- Relative card is updated
- Parent card is updated
- Predecessor card is updated
- Successor card is updated
8.3. New Spacious View for Custom Fields
To help you better navigate cards with multiple custom fields, we’re introducing a new spacious view available in the card details. This will open all custom fields in a separate window where you can add, remove, and update them.
